Instructions: Please use this form as an organizer for writing your portion of your group position paper. You will be writing the third part of the paper. You should clearly and thoroughly document the results of your interviews regarding the final solution that your group has decided on to solve the problem that you are addressing. You may use your own research and the research from other members of your group to address any objections or concerns that were raised by those interviewed. Be sure to follow the MLA citation format that you used when completing your JRP. Your portion of the paper should be a minimum of one page in length.
V. We interviewed individuals to see what their response would be to my plan. Their responses are as follows. Evelia Gonzalez believes that it is morally wrong to allow anyone commit suicide. She says that she could not do that to a love one. “Seeing a family member in pain, would be heartbreaking for me, but it would be ten times worse to live knowing that I could have stopped him from ending his life” Gonzalez is against euthanasia. Oscar Alvarez, in the other hand, is aware of the possible remorse one might feel after a relative is euthanized, but he is not against it. The reason due, is he believes that one should not suffer. “Many religious people believe that God would be offended or that they would commit a terrible sin, by supporting euthanasia, but I do not think Him (God) wants us to suffer.” Alvarez strongly believes that euthanasia can be a blessing for those in pain. Ken Borromeo agreed with the 21 age limit in order for the patient to grant consent of euthanasia and that euthanasia is only acceptable with solely the patient's consent. The health of the patient and his/her potential to survive should be considered before performing euthanasia. A time limit should be enforced before performing euthanasia in order to confirm that the patient has no chance of surviving. Gregory Garcia said that people who are euthanized get to die on their own terms, and overall, those who opt for euthanasia get to die with dignity, yet he believes that euthanasia is seen as morally wrong to many, because of religion, and also he believes that some people fear that doctors will abuse the power to euthanize by euthanizing anyone who seems like they can benefit from it. Mr. Garcia said that euthanasia should be legal because, it is an individual's choice. He asked, "Heroes choose how they die, so why can't ordinary people?" He also added, "Since when has euthanasia been the choice of others, when the choice [should come] from oneself?"
VI. Our answers, based on our research, to their objections and concerns are: Feeling guilt after a loved one has being euthanized is completely understandable. However, such feelings should be eliminated, because an individual should have control over himself and he should be allowed to make his own decisions. If a person decides to end his suffering who are the people around him to oppose? Are they the ones in pain? They are certainly not. Religion is a huge obstacle to euthanasia; Alvarez made a very interesting point. God does not want to see us in pain. Borromeo explains the situations in which, he believes euthanasia should be allowed, I agree. Garcia thinks that some doctors will take advantage of euthanasia once it is legalized, however, that will not be possible since terms and conditions will be applied.
